Head of Fyris is an annual rowing race organized by Uppsala Academic Rowing Society (UARS) on the River Fyris in Uppsala. First held in 2012, during the club’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, the event has grown into one of Sweden’s most distinctive head races, welcoming club crews from across the country.
This year, 21 crews and 57 participants from Uppland, Stockholm, and Jönköping have already confirmed their participation, with more expected in the coming days.
The competition follows a classic head-race format with individual starts over a 3 km course that begins near Flottsund Bridge and finishes close to the UARS boathouse in Ultuna, near the SLU campus (just down from Region Uppsala folkhögskola).
Head of Fyris offers visitors a different way to experience Uppsala’s outdoor life — with rowing, nature, and riverside atmosphere coming together along the Fyris. A good opportunity to enjoy a day outdoors and discover one of Uppsala’s most beautiful corners.
